All Saints’ had the honor to welcome Wyman Meinzer, the official photographer of the State of Texas, who joined us during the week of March 30th. Mr. Meinzer gave a lecture about what it was like to be a self taught photographer and how he was eventually named the official photographer for the state of Texas by President George W. Bush. Meinzer discussed his Texas roots and how he grew up working on a ranch. This was very interesting to note, because a big majority of his pictures are taken on ranches today. Mr. Meinzer continues to capture the beauty of our beloved state.
I had the privilege to go on a photography field trip with Mr. Meinzer to the Edwards Ranch and was able to experience what it was like to take pictures in that atmosphere. He gave us tips on how to take pictures and other pointers on how to work our cameras. We learned the crazy extents that photographers have to got to in order to take a good picture. In the picture below Mr. Meinzer was laying on the ground to capture the true beauty of this little waterfall.
Being able to take pictures with such a well known photographer was such a great experience to have had. I learned a lot about photography in a hands on way, which is the best way to learn in my opinion. The true art of photography takes hard work to achieve. I look up to Mr. Meinzer for his self taught photography expertise.
Interesting article and well written.
