Through the end of the day Tuesday to early morning Wednesday of January 6th and 7th, earthquakes have surprised the people in North Texas. It was said that there were 9 earthquakes in a 24 hour period in Irving, Texas around the site of the Old Texas Stadium. Many people are in distress and worried about the growth in the number of earthquakes that are beginning to appear in Texas. Native Texans are not used to earthquakes like people from say, California. What could be causing these earthquakes to occur all of the sudden?
There are theories that have come up about Oil and Gas companies being the cause of these earthquakes, however this has not been confirmed. 20 different cities confirmed that they felt the earthquakes. The smallest earthquake was measured at 1.6 and the largest earthquake was measured at a 3.6 on the Richter scale, which caused quite a bit of damage and stirred up some anxiety for the people in Irving and surrounding cities.
Students and young adults responded to the earthquakes in the best way they knew how to… on twitter. The hashtag #Dallasearthquake was created and many people shared their thoughts about this unusual event.
“Anyone else feel that #Earthquake in #Dallas just now?”
“Was that an earthquake or am I losing my ming?! Books falling off shelves in my apartment. Aren’t I living in downtown Dallas?!”
