A Deflated Win?

February 2, 2015 will be remembered forever by football fans. The New England Patriots defeated The Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in an exciting finish to a spectacular season. It was the type of game sports fans have been waiting to see. The Super Bowl would start and end in controversy. After their win against The Indianapolis Colts, the Patriots were accused on intentionally deflating footballs. This act is against the NFL’s rules because it is easier to throw and catch footballs if there isn’t the regular amount of air in the football. These accusations arose after D’Quell Jackson of the Indianapolis Colts intercepted a pass from Tom Brady and found the football was not inflated as it usually is. The NFL’s investigation has so far only determined that 11 of the 12 footballs the New England Patriots used in the AFC Championship were deflated. Besides this the NFL has no further evidence suggesting who actually deflated the footballs. Quarterback Tom Brady and Coach Bill Belichick both deny having any involvement with the controversy. A recent report has given us information that there is no way to even determine if the footballs were tampered with in any way. If this report is true, then the Patriots won’t receive any discipline for the event and the NFL could be in trouble. Even with all the distractions the Patriots had to keep their focus on the game.

At the end of three quarters, the Seahawks were up 24-14 but Tom Brady led the Patriots back with two touchdown passes to take the lead 28-24. With two minutes left, the Seahawks drove all the way to the 1 yard line. With less than a minute on the clock, one timeout, and a 2nd down and goal, Russell Wilson threw a slant to Chris Matthews. Before the pass got to him, it was intercepted by Malcolm Butler, the Patriots cornerback, sealing the game. This stunned many who wondered why the Seahawks wouldn’t just give the ball to Marshawn Lynch and win the game.

It is something fans of Seattle will think about for a long time. No matter how much controversy this year’s Super Bowl had, we can all agree it was an unbelievable game!
