All Saints’ Athletics has transitioned from Fall to Winter Sports, and the various teams have gotten off to hot starts. After a strong showing at the Fall SPC Championships in Dallas, Texas, the focus now shifts to All Saints’ Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, and Wrestling. A quick look at the teams and their upcoming holiday schedules:
All Saints’ Men’s and Women’s Basketball are led by two new faces: Coach Shon Adams and Coach Tammy Reeves. Coach Adams has served as an assistant the last three years on the Men’s Varsity Basketball staff and, this year, takes the lead as Head Coach with a young, athletic basketball team. With only two seniors, one junior, and one sophomore, the rest of the team is comprised of freshmen who have the athleticism and ability to compete right away. This held true over this past weekend when the team traveled to San Angelo, Texas, for the San Angelo Thanksgiving Classic and came away with the championship trophy, going undefeated in a double-elimination tournament format. The team will play in two more tournaments prior to Thanksgiving – this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Nov. 20-22, the team will play in the Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill Men’s Basketball Tournament, and then Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Nov. 24-26, the team will play in the Southwest Christian School Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Women’s Varsity Basketball team started the season with a home win over Southwest Christian, and they, too, will take part in a tournament this coming weekend and early next week. They will travel to Arlington for the Newman Academy Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22, and then join the Men’s team at Southwest Christian for the Women’s Basketball Tournament next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24 and 25. Coach Reeves is excited about getting her girls in more tournament games and letting them get as much experience as possible before the beginning of SPC conference play.
The Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams are led by Men’s coach, Gilbert Richardson, and Women’s coach, Cassidy Acuff. Both coaches have high expectations for this season and their teams are hard at work. The Men’s Varsity Soccer team won its opening match against (Irving) Cistercian and have games this week on Tuesday, away at Southwest Christian, and on Thursday against Trinity Valley School here at All Saints’. The Women’s Varsity Soccer team will get its season started on Tuesday with a game at Southwest Christian, and then will play again on Thursday against Trinity Valley School. Both games on Thursday will be played at All Saints’ Stevens Field.
The All Saints’ Varsity Swimming team is hard at work, waking up early for 6:30am pool workouts and preparing for their meets that will begin to take place in January. The team is loaded with experienced swimmers and student-athletes are committed to putting in the work necessary to prepare for the upcoming season.
The All Saints’ Varsity Wrestling team is led by a new face, as well: Coach Greg Duke. Coach Duke is excited about this year’s team due to an increased number of student-athletes choosing to wrestle in the Winter. His athletes are eager to learn and get better on the mat and perfect the techniques Coach Duke has brought with him. The team’s first meet will be Saturday, December 6, at Fort Worth Country Day.
Be Early. Be Loud. Stay Late. Go Saints! PTF
